It is common to turn to food as a coping skill since eating essentially “changes the channel” of your undesirable feelings. You can then disconnect from your body and tune out.
When you are eating for any reason other than physiological hunger, you are also hoping that food will “feed” you on a deeper level. The longer you use food to try and “control” the chaos, the more it feels like you are spinning out of control. You begin to lose the ability to breathe deeply, to be present and to connect with your body and its needs.

At some point in your life, turning to food protected you and allowed you to cope with pain. However, eventually this pattern became destructive. It sabotaged you from thriving. It held you back from shining your light.
